Two Passionate Topics that intertwine

Two possible topics that I am very passionate about are the lost of moral values and the manipulative social media. Social media is a propaganda that endorses profanity, blasphemy, violence, pornography, degrading of women, race wars, and most importantly, lost of community.

In the 1900s, females originally wore clothing that covered their arms and legs barely showing any skin. Now, females have skirts that are way above their knee caps, shirts that shows off their bellies, and more sexual attires. How do we get to this point? How do we reach a destination that is the complete inverse of everything in the past approved of? Social media. Social media had a huge outbreak in the early 2000s. Myspace, Facebook, twitter, Instagram, and more other social media's websites were used as a method of communication.

However, due to how powerful social media is, other people capitalize on this observation, and began to fill the minds of innocent children, teenagers, and adults with videos and photos that lacks morals values. There are too many videos of violence being shown. For example, fights, abusive relationships, gun posts, and more lethal weapons being used on other human beings that expresses lost of community. Then, religion. "Share this post or else you go to hell." Then, racist remarks on other people from different backgrounds like "blacks be like". Do not get me wrong, I am not oblivious to the posts or messages promoting anti bullying, anti violence, and more social problems. However, just liking the post does not do anything. This is never going to change because people are unaware that just liking a post do not create any social remedy. This is due to the major propaganda social media has on its people. We are losing are moral values. We are stepping on each other to reach our paths of success instead of aspiring others to climb with us up the mountain. Therefore, it is time for social media to stop hypnotizing the teenagers, the children, and adults. We are being brain washed to a point where we become dependent on social media to resolve conflicts and personal issues.

  1. Hi Khalil, I agree with you that this is a huge issue. How are you planning on writing each post? Maybe you could show both sides of the story - include a really positive social media post and a more negative one. Then you could talk about the differences between the two and which ideologies or commonplaces are motivating each person to write what they did.

  2. Interesting topic Khalil! Would you tackle a different moral that has been lost every post, or would you focus on certain media outlets? Good luck with your upcoming blog.

  3. I really like your idea of blogging about the power of social media in modern society. There are many angles that you could write from, as well as many topics to focus on. The media has the power to manipulate the masses in so many different areas within everyday life. This provides you with many topics to write about. I look forward to reading more of your blog.

  5. I like your approach towards the social media by saying how it demoralizes our society. I do not appreciate how the media is de-emphasizing such heavy subjects.

  6. Hey Khalil! Very pertinent topic! However, I think that we should remind ourselves that there have been countercultures in nearly every generation (assuming you're taking the stance that social media is a counterculture to 20th century social customs) and that social media is an addition to the list of tools the youth have used to popularize new sensations, good or bad. But since social media has made that process for today's youth so much more efficient, perhaps you could blog about that specific shift to a quicker, systemized secular network making both the positive and negative trends a closer reality to the millions of kids using it.

  7. Khalil, you sound passionate about your passion topic, which is a good entry point into the assignment. I sense that you'll still want to refine your approach due to how broad it currently is. (You tapped into oversexualization, violence, racism, pornography, degradation of women -- all of which are important to consider, of course, but all of which are "large" enough in their own rights to be the focus of a blog.)

This being said, keep refining and considering how you might narrow your focus and hone your approach. It might be also important to note that these problems were present in our society before social media arrived, but perhaps your point is that the current prevalence of social media has made the problems worse (or at least, more visible).

Good luck as you keep refining!
