As society became more developed, so did our technology. Our technology became highly advanced from the way how we were living in the past. There were no iPhones, computers, or video games back then. Now, there are so many technology gadgets that technology is everywhere we go. This is highly significant because humans became so dependent on technology that we actually became less- efficient. For example, when we try to solve a math problem that requires decimals and fractions, we are so tempted to use a calculator to solve the answer instead of using our brain. In addition, when it comes to typing a paper, we use auto-correct to fix a word we do not know how to spell instead of looking at the dictionary. This impacts the culture of not only our generation, but future generations since technology caused humans to become indolent with poor work ethics.
Another major shift that occurred is the diversity in colleges. Before, there were only whites that were allowed to receive an education due to laws discriminating against other races. Because of this, the culture is greatly impacted since colleges are predominately white. Colleges will have limited culture backgrounds or experiences due to less minorities enrolling in a college. Also, it is unexpected for a minority to actually finish college. it is very common for them to drop out due to the circumstances and conditions colleges have for those of color. By dropping out, it is not particularly relating to academics, it is also referring to social aspect like culture shock. Now, the shift contains more minorities in college now. There are colleges that are historically African American, historically Latino, and more that makes the conditions or circumstances more bearable for those of colors.
In conclusion, the shift in technology and the amount of minorities in colleges are two significant paradigms since it impacts the beliefs, expectations, and conditions of our society.
Indeed, technology brought us change over time greatly. Computers, Iphones or video games are current paradigms we depend on. I can not imagine without these certain technologies. The perspective in race also changed our paradigms into more diverse way. Racial segregation was intense in USA, but the equality of human beings further improved which colleges can also accept wide variety of different people.
ReplyDeleteI agree that our dependency on technology has increased considerably in recent times. It would be great if you focused on one particular piece of technology---something unique---to really find a niche. Similarly, focusing on a particular state or specific college for your second idea would dial in your focus.
ReplyDeleteI feel that your topic on minority representation in colleges is a better option, as I think that talking about technology is limited, as its advances primarily stem from convenience and not an underlying cultural trend. But if you can pull an argument with that topic, then by all means!
